Terms of Service

What you can expect from us, what we need from you, and what happens when something is not right.

Who you are dealing with

K&J Shine Works is a trade name of Pineland, LLC. When you book a detail with us, your agreement is with Pineland, LLC, at 842 Vernon Valley Dr Ste 4, Cedar Rapids, IA 52403.

Booking an appointment, dropping off a vehicle, or having us come to you means these terms apply. They are written to be read, so please read them.

Quotes and prices

The figures on our pricing page are real, and most jobs land inside them. They are ranges because vehicle size and condition genuinely change the work: a compact that gets washed monthly is not a three-row SUV that has carried two dogs and a toddler since 2021.

  • A quote over the phone or by message is an estimate based on what you tell us. The price is confirmed when we see the vehicle.
  • Heavy paint correction on a coating job, deep scratches, severe swirling, or oxidation, is quoted separately, because folding it into a headline price would overcharge most people to cover a few.
  • Excessive pet hair and biohazard cleanup are quoted after we see the vehicle.
  • If what we find changes the price, you hear it from us and approve it before we carry on. We do not surprise people at the till.

Quotes are free and carry no obligation. Prices on this site can change; the price you approved for your appointment is the price you pay.

Booking, changing, and cancelling

We do not take deposits and we do not charge cancellation fees. Tell us as early as you can if you need to move or cancel, and we will move it. That is the whole policy, and it works because most people are reasonable.

The one limit: if someone repeatedly books slots and does not turn up, we may ask them to confirm by phone before we hold time for them again. A missed slot on a small crew's calendar is a day another customer could have had.

For mobile jobs, weather sometimes decides for us. If conditions would compromise the work, we will contact you and reschedule, at no cost to you.

Mobile service: what we need from you

Not much. Somewhere to park where we can open the doors fully, and enough room to work around the vehicle. We carry our own water and power, so nothing needs running out to us.

What we do need is access at the time we agreed and permission to work where the vehicle is parked. If it is on a street, in a shared lot, or somewhere with rules about this kind of work, that is yours to clear before we arrive. If access turns out to be too tight to work safely, we will talk to you about bringing it to the shop instead.

Before we start

  • Take your personal items out. Cash, electronics, documents, garage remotes, sunglasses, anything you would not want moved. We are careful with what is left, but we are not responsible for personal property left in the vehicle.
  • Tell us about the vehicle. Repainted panels, wraps or paint protection film, aftermarket tint, loose trim, a window that does not seal, a warning light. These change how we work, and we would rather know than find out.
  • Existing damage stays existing damage. We note the vehicle's condition when it arrives. Detailing makes flaws visible that dirt was hiding: rock chips, etching, failing clearcoat, previous bodywork. Revealing something is not the same as causing it.
  • We can decline work. Rarely, but if a surface is so far gone that cleaning it risks making it worse, we will tell you rather than take your money and hope.

Payment

Payment is due when the work is finished and the vehicle goes back to you, by card or cash. Card payments run through our payment provider's equipment: we see that the payment cleared, never your card number.

When your vehicle is ready we will tell you, and we will tell you the balance at the same time. Collect it during business hours, Monday to Saturday, 9 AM to 5 PM. If you need us to hold it longer, just say so and we will work it out. We do not run a storage charge.

The Iron-Clad Satisfaction Guarantee

We are not finished until you are happy with the result. If something is not right, tell us and we will make it right, at no charge. That is the core of how we do business and there has never been a separate charge for it.

In practice: raise it with us promptly, ideally before you leave or within a couple of days, while it is clear what we did and what happened afterwards. Bring the vehicle back, or we come back out, and we redo the work.

What it is not: it is a guarantee about our workmanship, not a promise to repair damage that was on the vehicle before we touched it, to reverse ordinary wear, or to undo what happens to a car over the following months of driving, weather, and Iowa road salt.

Ceramic coatings

Our coating tiers are named 1, 3, 5, and 8 year because that reflects the durability of the chemistry: a thicker, harder coating costs more and holds up longer. That is the expected service life of the product under normal use and proper care. It is not a guarantee that your paint will look untouched on a particular date, and it is not an insurance policy.

  • Cure time matters. We will tell you how long to keep the vehicle dry and out of the weather after application. Ignoring it affects the result.
  • Wash it properly. Regular pH-neutral washing, and no automatic brush tunnels. A brush tunnel will do more damage in ninety seconds than a year of driving.
  • A coating is not armour. It adds a harder sacrificial layer that shrugs off light swirls and makes contaminants easier to remove before they etch. Rock chips and deep scratches still happen.
  • Coating problems, tell us early. If the coating is genuinely failing rather than dirty, we want to see it. We will inspect it and put right what is ours to put right.
  • Our maintenance program is the easy route. Coated vehicles on the program are washed pH-neutral by us, which is what keeps a coating performing for the years it was sold for.

Photographs of your vehicle

We photograph the vehicles we work on. Some of those photos end up on our before and after page and our social media, because showing the work is how a detailer earns the next job.

Unless you tell us otherwise, booking with us gives us permission to use photographs of your vehicle for our own portfolio and marketing. We obscure license plates, and we do not publish your name, your address, or anything inside the vehicle that identifies you.

Say no and that is the end of it, with no effect on your service or your price. Tell us when you book, tell the tech on the day, or call us afterwards and we will pull the photos down.

Liability

We carry ourselves like professionals and we treat customer vehicles better than our own. If we damage your vehicle through our own negligence, tell us straight away and we will deal with it properly.

Beyond that, and to the extent Iowa law allows: our services are provided as described here, without other warranties, express or implied. We are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, such as time off work, a missed trip, or loss of use, and our total liability for any claim connected with a job is limited to the amount you paid us for that job.

We are not responsible for pre-existing conditions revealed by cleaning, for failures of aftermarket parts, films, wraps or previous bodywork, or for personal property left in the vehicle.

This website

The text, photographs, and design on kjshineworks.com are ours. Please do not copy them onto another detailer's website. Our own work photographs are exactly that: our own work, on real customer vehicles in the Cedar Rapids area, not stock imagery.

How we handle your information is set out in our Privacy Policy, and how appointment texting works is on our SMS terms page. Both are part of these terms.

Governing law, and changes

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Iowa, and any dispute belongs in the courts of Linn County, Iowa. If a court finds one part unenforceable, the rest still stands.

Before it ever gets near a court: call us. Almost everything is solved by a phone call and a redo, which is what the guarantee is for.

We may update these terms, and the current version always lives on this page with the date below. The terms that apply to your job are the ones in force when you booked it. Questions: (319) 677-2890 or Hello@KJShineworks.com.
